In the previous post we talked about how billions of people in the world lack proof of property rights. This makes it hard to manage properties and often leads to violent land conflicts. The problem is affecting millions of families in Uganda. We created Titl to solve these issues. Titl powers Truesoil, our property management platform in Uganda. But how does Truesoil work?
Truesoil connects property owners with tenants, allowing them to manage rent, resolve conflicts and build trust. The nice thing is that Truesoil can help any kind of property owner manage their property, regardless whether they manage malls, leasing for housing, or land with overlapping rights.
It works like this:
We identify all tenants making claims to the property and save their data. Again, this can be tenants leasing a shop at a mall or a kibanja tenant on mailo land.
We facilitate negotiations between the tenants and property owners. This allows them to enter standardized agreements that help them stay within the law and build a healthy relationship. If they already have an agreement, then we simply use that.
That’s it. Now both the tenant and property owners can communicate digitally through our webapp. The webapp can be accessed via a browser or USSD. It allows tenants to pay rent (or busuulu), make requests, and provides the owner with a dashboard to manage all property related activities.
Truesoil does not create property rights. It helps tenants get what they need to prove their property rights (the agreement) and keep their rights (proof of payments). In other words: we help tenants act lawfully. Likewise, we make managing properties hassle-free for the owners by automating much of the work that requires labor - such as managing requests, checking payments, and changes to the tenants on the property - and giving them a complete overview of their property.
